The very nature of metal makes it one of the most durable categories in the world of antiques. The longevity of brass, bronze copper and a variety of other alloys used by man for centuries has left a long diverse and interesting array of items for collectors to consider. Collecting categories span everything from lighting devices, cooking implements, heath equipment, hardware, valuables boxes and so much more. This durability and diversity also brings with it a certain complexity and expertise not often required with other more documented categories which requires a different skills and knowledge to navigate. Many markets have been destroyed by contemporary reproductions which have flooded the market which add confusion and muddy the waters of legitimate antiquities, which go hand in hand with rarity, value and the market.
I believe metal ware to be one of the most complex and difficult to navigate and something I look forward to learning more about over time.
