French Louis XV Rococo 18th Century Carved giltwood Wall Mirror. A mid-18th century French Louis XV giltwood wall mirror with original rectangular mirror pane, the mirrored showing bold intricate foliage and floral carving. The corners are accentuated with large C-scrolls which are connected by interlacing laurel garlands. The mirror is surmounted by a pierced cresting with a central flower and foliage basket of elaborate carving which is arched by a three-lobed rocaille cartouche. Supported on two small feet decorated with C-scrolls, the part of the frame is decorated by a central flower bouquet. Original gilding with beautiful patina. The original mirror panes with some corrosion. Literature: Graham Child: World Mirrors, London, 1990, p.194-195, fig. 359-364. A superb example of  period untouched mirror which not only retains it original plate and gold gilding but the back boards and surface history reveal a story seldom told these days in the antiques world. Pure, authentic, undisturbed and the real thing in every way. Not just shabby chic but actually a miraculous find which purists some times never get to see. Any surface wear and gold missing it likely due to light cleaning and dusting over the past 300 years.
